about

Stop.drop.rewind is a band that perseveres. They’ve faced hardships to get where they are, so when it came time to write Polarity, their highly anticipated third EP, they set out to write songs that captured those hardships, but also the hope that comes from overcoming them, in a manner that showcased each member’s unique voice and skillset. The first five tracks on Polarity are songs of struggle. They’re songs of loss of love, loss of trust, loss of faith, and loss of self. And yet through all of this, there’s a prevailing sense of hope throughout the record. It stems from a mutual understanding that hard times are both fleeting and universal. Musically, stop.drop.rewind wanted to push their own personal boundaries, writing an album that is more musically complex than any of their previous efforts, but retaining the big hooks and catchy choruses that their fans have come to expect. The EP opens with “Bottomless,” a frantic, medium-tempo rock anthem with dark, rich chord qualities and frequent tempo changes, bringing the band’s strong prog rock background to the forefront of their sound. This sound continues in “Guts,” a slower, minor lament that hearkens back to the post hardcore, Brand New-esque sound that the band grew up with. The album closes with “Quicksand,” which was the last song written for the album. Its quick chord changes, soaring leads, and explorations in variation on a theme hearken back to the band’s jazz roots, and its uplifting and inclusive lyrics speak to stop.drop.rewind’s optimism about the future. Stop.drop.rewind is a band that knows the road ahead of them is a tough one, because the road behind them has been tough. But they’re not shying away from the challenge, and they can’t wait to take you with them on their journey.

Track Name: Bottomless
Draining the well like it's bottomless. Filling my belly with confidence. It's slipping out of my consciousness. Conversations monotonous, from where I'm sitting anonymous. It's sticking out of my consciousness, so rip it out of my consciousness.
You look so at home tonight, would you like a flower for your hair. Am I not my own tonight? Am I not going anywhere?
The universe revolves around the earth. The sky is empty but the world still turns. And I can see it- the future's up in the clouds if I can just get high enough to reach.
I try to make you proud, assumed that it would be I that let you down but it wasn't. Whenever I try to stand my ground, always feels like the world is falling down- but it doesnt.
Draining the well like its bottomless. Direct and hemorrhaging confidence. It's slipping out of my consciousness. Inside the party is populous, all lights and singing and opulence. It's sticking out of my consciousness. So rip it out of my consciousness.
The air is sweet and warm tonight, but the trees have fallen bare. Would you take my arm tonight? Would you like a flower for your hair?
A flake of snow that settled on your nose. Let's go back inside and not see where this goes. And I can see it- thoughts cant conquer a conscience operating on instinct alone.
Then the bottle drew its breath, and craned its neck and made as if to speak. It said "You think you've got nobody? You've got nobody, but you'll always count on me. And the fog will always clear. I'll still be right here writing all your favorite songs. You'd be better to just admit, you're a piece of shit. You'd be lost if I was gone!"
Draining the well like it's bottomless.
Move slow on nights like this. Remember it. Go home on nights like this or live with fits. Get used to it. You'll mend as time goes by or bend with time and split like twine. Go home on nights like this or live with fits and what you did.
Track Name: Guts
If I was brave then the answer would be so clear. You couldn't drag me away. I'd write the words that would save us all myself, then I'd give them away. It's alright, I'm ok. Take the call, tell us all those ugly words. I imagined your face and priorities straight.
It's been a long night caught in a flood and I can feel the changing taste of my blood. I got a lot of time for spilling my guts, but it's not enough when I'm stunted.
Pardon me if you're suffering, with a captain and cola to freshen your doubt. Down another and face the day. This place is feeling like home again with the taste of blackberries and gin in her mouth. Tell progress it has to wait.
It's been a long night caught in a flood and I can feel the changing taste of my blood. I got a lot of time for spilling my guts, but it's not enough when I'm stunted.
You're giving up before we've crested the hill. Don't be afraid of the blade, its jagged edge to your will. The dream's alive until reality comes in for the kill. You're stuck in the mud. You're more than enough.
Breathing under water.
Keep believing we could stay afloat. Tiny holes will sink this boat. I can't carry you.
Don't mind the flood cause the taste of my blood tells me this is all part of the plan. Got no resolve so its problem solved. In the end you're left with those that understand. At the close you end up with those that understand you.
Track Name: Braver Than I Was
Caught me weary, weak and restless. I don't mind, I'm down if you want to get desperate. Days go by without a sound but if i sink then you'll go down. Wasting eyes on glassy faces. Do you mind? The agitated feeling's contagious. Swatting flies won't pass your time. Are you crying or just crying wolf?
Only call to say your sorry. Act like pain is so disarming. Loneliness is far from charming when nobody is biting. Say we're close and you correct me. Face the ground when you address me. My friends know and yours suspect it. Pity sex me. Bite my lines to pass your time.
Night was over. Drawstring tension we all felt but everybody tried not to mention. Overpaid for cheap champagne and another token bears your name. Warm and windy, dark and starry. Awkward car ride half intoxicated and sorry. Days go by without a sound but if i sink then you'll go down.
Keep close in a crowded room so you can talk to yourself. Always insist you came alone. Grasp the fallacy I'm adrift in until I'm twisted and raw from the friction. In line beside you, I'm behind the dance floor slouching. Wonders how your drink is never dry. Grasp the fallacy I'm adrift in until I'm twisted and raw from the friction. Not at home in a crowded room, you only talk to yourself. Realize it must look like I'm alone. Grasp the fallacy I'm adrift in until I'm twisted and raw from the friction.
Track Name: Super Soldier
Last night we heard the noise again - pull the sheets over your head. Remember what my mother said? Tonight it could be them.
Men have lived and died, they said, while the pestilence had slept. We heard your signal of distress: your electric bluest dress.
I would run headlong down every corridor, as if i had forgotten when I'd opened this box before.
Come alive and do what you're told. Grow strong but not old, soldier. Better do what you're told: grow strong but not old. All machines die alone, supersoldier.
Can it be I saw myself, ears ringing like a bell? Nights been long, it'd hard to tell myself, my skin, my shell.
I would run headlong down every corridor, as if i had forgotten when I'd opened this box before.
Come alive and do what you're told. Grow strong but not old, soldier. Better do what you're told: grow strong but not old. All machines die alone, supersoldier.
Estimate the worth of a life and die regretting nothing.
Estimate the cost of a life and die regretting nothing but failure.
Down in the dark we writhe. Alive we're proud of nothing at all.
Calculate the value of life. Alive we've got no guts, only failure. Up from the dark, we climb. At night, we're proud of nothing at all.
Track Name: Trains
Come back confidence, where have you gone?
I can feel you in the trains behind my house.
Everyone is listening, everyone has heard. Everyone is asking, all my friends are worried about me. Now my will is failing. All my friends are ghosts. It's true nobody loves you, but I love you not the most.
Remember me as the lightning in your veins and I'll remember you as the 5 day forecast that promised sun, then every day it rained. Let's call this what it is. A scrap of something worth saving with 1000 tons of waste on top of it.
I'm never free from this need to appease.
Leads me to speak in tongues that aren't mine.
Scabs turns to scars. Yours turn to ours.
Burning all your letters feeling better and better.
Track Name: Quicksand
Streetlights on outside my home. Another note up on the door- it's nice to be alone. Let's leave the front door open wide. You're resurrected where you're crucified.
Quicksand- you're sinking. Hope just leads to pain. Just keep on digging. I don't feel the same, all colors fade. We start again. Quicksand- you're sliding. Weighted by your pride. Just keep on climbing til the sky is all you see. A broken bone is just a chance to heal, a brighter color on my color wheel. The barest tree is brown but isnt dead. A brighter palette across my vision spreads.
Feast of famine, drown or drought, the sun will rise on you and dry my foolishness and doubt. In hazy rooms where we reside the sun will rise. We'll be revived, complete, revitalized.
Paying the price for the time you've wasted and the past that's been weighing on you.
Cursed with potential and expectation; in a second was lifted.
Never deserving the love you're given: the albatross that's been hanging on you.
It isn't who you are, but you'll carry it anyway.
Streetlights on outside my home, on a spinning mass of blue. If it spins too fast for you, keep hanging on. Leave the front door open wide. Come in and watch the sky, it's all you see.
A broken bone is just a chance to heal, a brighter color on my color wheel. The barest tree is brown but isnt dead. A brighter palette across my vision spreads.
